Ballerina Poses in Pencil

Hello Friends!

Her are the rough sketches of a ballerina in many different poses. I sketched them small so I could get them all on one page. I plan to draw them larger so I can show them in different poses. And I will post them when I draw them larger.

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Snail Characters in Pencil

Hello Friends!

Lately, I have been practicing giving ordinary animals character and personality. I decided to draw a few snails who are peering at one another. They are definitely up to something! I am feeling excited about my classes that I will be starting in January. I hope to become a better artist and learn all about illustrating children’s books next year. It would be such an awesome blessing to be able to illustrate someone’s picture book (and my own) someday!

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Character Poses in Pencil

Hello Friends!

I have been working on some new character ideas lately. I have been practicing drawing characters in different poses. I am also getting excited about a bundle of new art courses I am taking in 2022. They will be through an organization called Make Art That Sells. I saw an ad for it on Instagram and decided to check it out. Then I found out they were having a huge sale on different bundles of classes, so I decided to find out more about them.

The teachers all seem very knowledgeable and fun. There are seven “live” classes that go from January through November but not all at the same time. A couple of them overlap with each other, though.

Then we have nine self-paced classes that we have two years to finish.

I am looking forward to all of the challenges in the new year ahead. I decided I am not feeling as inspired following classes taught by artists who are teaching from their own styles. However, I have definitely learned many great things from artists I have taken other classes from.

I think what will be different about these new classes is that they are also going to be teaching us how to build a portfolio of art and make pitches to try and sell our art to different companies. We will even be taking a class called “My Toy Pitch” where we will be learning how to invent original toys and games, but all we need to worry about is coming up with the ideas and art. So the companies who buy the ideas and art are the ones who build them, and that sounds fun!

Actually, it ALL sounds fun, and I am so excited! It will also mean I will be spending more time in town to attend the LIVE classes since our internet usage is limited at home.

So I may not be posting as much here on my blog, because I am expecting this to take lots of time!

I hope you are all doing well and are thinking about new goals for yourselves in the New Year!

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Critters in Pencil

Hello Friends!

Over the last few days I worked on these little sketches for four more prompts of last month’s art challenge on Instagram called Autumn Woods 2021. I am not sure yet if I am going to do any more of them right now, though.

I hope you are all doing well. It’s hard to believe the holidays are here already! We keep them pretty low-key around here these days, though.

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Amphibians in Pencil

Hello Friends!

For the last couple of evenings I worked on these two creatures. The top one is an Oriental Fire-bellied Toad which is bright green with a bright red belly red toes, and black spots. I think I may do a watercolor of it, too!

The bottom one is a Fire Salamander. It is black with bright yellow markings. They are both beautiful animals! I found them in my DK e.encyclopedia animal book. I just love the photos in this book, because they are all so colorful.

I hope you are all doing well. We have had a couple of beautiful days here. Fall is my favorite time of year! Spring is a very close second, though.

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Moth in Pencil

Hello Friends!

I drew this moth on the same night as the beaver I posted yesterday. I find that moths and butterflies are the most challenging insects to draw. It is difficult to get their wings symmetrical. And all of the little lines and sections are tedious. But I didn’t spend a lot of time on this one. I moved on to drawing the beaver that night which I posted yesterday. It was more fun!

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Beaver in Pencil

Hello Friends!

I drew this beaver the other night while watching t.v. which is when I do most of my sketching. I guess that way I don’t feel so much like a couch potato, ha ha! I find it relaxing.

I hope you all had a great week. We have finally been getting some badly needed rain here in California. It is getting a little colder, too. Autumn is finally here!

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Laughing Hyena in Pencil

Hello Friends!

A couple of days ago I drew this laughing hyena in pencil in my sketchbook. I have been sketching in pencil lately. I haven’t really been working on anything else. Yesterday, I spent a lot of time looking online for new smaller tables to put in my art studio. I was just going to get one, but my husband needs a place to work on some podcasting he wants to do. So I got him a table, too. When those come next week, I will get the big wooden table out of there. One of its legs keeps dropping screws, so I am afraid it might just fall apart on me. It is very old and really too large for the room. We had it in the garage for years, but now I am not sure where it will go, ha ha!

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well and having a good week.

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Red Fox in Pencil

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I finished drawing this fox that I began last week. I took my time with this one, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a good picture of it outside until it stopped raining. We got several inches of rain over the last few days which we badly needed. It has been nice the last couple of days, though.

I still haven’t been doing much art this week. I have read a few books, though, ha ha!

Our oldest moved out last weekend but hasn’t had a chance to come back for one of the tables in my studio that I am giving them. And I haven’t decided what I am going to do with the extra space yet.

I hope you have all had a nice week. I didn’t do all the Halloween drawings I had thought of doing, but I am still reading ghost stories which is fun.

Have a wonderful day! 😀

Witch Hazel Drawings in Pencil

Hello Friends!

It has been quite a while since I posted. I haven’t been doing much art lately. I have still been reading a lot. I discovered a writer of ghost stories named Mary Downing Hahn. Her books are written for older children. They are short enjoyable novels. And our library has several of them which I have liked a lot.

I have only drawn the first few animals for the autumn woods 2021 challenge on Instagram.

Our oldest moved out again, so I spent some time over the weekend cleaning out my studio where they had to sleep while they were here.

So yesterday I worked out and began watching the Harry Potter movies again. It has been a couple of years since I have watched any of them. And I have only read through the books once.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well.

Have a wonderful day! 😀
