Abstract Triangles in Oil Pastels
Hello Friends!
Here is an abstract I drew with oil pastels the other night. The book I mentioned in an earlier post talks about different shapes you can use in compositions, the triangle being one, along with L-shaped, diagonal, etc. Debora Stewart does say to never do diagonals from corner to corner, though, which is exactly what I did with washi tape in one of my recent goth ballerina mixed media pieces. But I still like mine and I think the positions I have the ballerinas in balances out the “division” of the canvas. But I do understand what she is saying.
I also know I went a little crazy with these triangles, and it is a “busy” piece. But I was “in the zone” and was mostly doing a color study. The pastel paper I used was light blue, so the colors came out either darker or too light, in the case of the yellows. Then lastly, I drew in the squiggles.
I hope everyone has had a great week and will enjoy your weekend!
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
Ballerinas in Oil Pastels #2
Hello Friends!
Today I finished this oil pastel drawing of Degas’s “Dancers in Pink and Green.” My rendition is much brighter than his original. But I really love how vivid these oil pastels are! I used lots of colors! But I especially love the green and pink!
I hope everyone has a great week!

“Dancer with a fan” by Degas
Hello Friends!
This is another of my renditions of a Degas dancer. I did something that he did in his sketches a lot. I left the first markings I drew where I had placed her left arm. Then I corrected it somewhat. This is just a sketch in my art journal.
I am enjoying studying Degas’s work and reading about his life and work.

Ballerinas in Oil Pastels
Hello Friends!
The other day I decided to start playing with my oil pastels some more. This is my rendition of Degas’s “Blue dancers.” I didn’t get enough of their skin tones in, though. also I did a blue background, whereas his background has more oranges and greens and a few faint images of ballerinas dressed in orange.
I am finding this medium to be challenging which I enjoy. I have done a couple more renditions of his ballerinas that will be in upcoming posts.
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
Pen & Oil Pastel Ballerina #2
Hello Friends!
This is my rendition of Degas’s “Dancer with Bouquets.” Again, I did my intial drawing in pen, but filled in the color with my oil pastels. And I did not copy his background or try to match the colors just right. I decided to just draw and have fun!
Soon I think I will be trying to draw some portraits of people from my imagination using charcoal, white gesso and maybe black gesso. I am not sure yet, but I feel like playing with some new ideas and combining different mediums.
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
Pen and Oil Pastel Ballerina
Hello Friends!
Well, it has been awhile since I posted. We are in northern California and have been part of the power outage for about the last 30 hours. And now the temperature has dropped more. The good news is we have a new generator hooked up to our well and our water heater is gas, so we not only have running water, but we have HOT water, too! So that has been a huge plus!
Anyway, I did this drawing of Degas’s “Torso of a Dancer” with my ink pen and oil pastels which I am just learning to use. It was relaxing, though, and didn’t take too long. My shoulder is doing better since I have had the rubberbands to exercise with again. Plus, I am staying off of my laptop and other devices as much as possible. I am getting lots of reading done, and at night with the help of a head lamp. Ha, ha!! 😉
I hope everyone’s week is going well!
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
