“Brown” Sea Turtle Watercolor

Hello Friends,

Yesterday I said I would be posting the sea turtle doodle I finished last night.  I had already worked on the background a few days ago and started it at my desk where I can use my watercolors out of the tubes.  However, last night I decided to use my Prismacolor watercolor pencils to finish this one instead.  It is more brown than I’d wanted, and not even the colors I had originally planned for, but the first one I did with this turtle’s pose the other day was such a disaster I could never show it to anyone.  Trust me; it’s very bad!  So here is a sea turtle that is brown, but that would not be classified as its ‘type’.  I think it is a Green Sea Turtle which is fine, because many of their shells do have a lot of brown in them.  They are not called ‘green’ for their shell color but for the color of the fat inside their bodies.

So anyway if you have a new name for this one, write it in the comments.  Thanks.

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!  🙂

Pond Turtle and Sea Turtle Doodles

Pond Turtle Doodle

Hello Friends,

Last night I was watching t.v. and decided to doodle with my Prismacolor watercolor pencils.  I still struggle with making up drawings out of my head.  This pond turtle, I’ll call him “Tucker,” decided to wear a hat on this hot summer day.

I have been concentrating more on writing for my class than doing art.  I am currently working on a non-fiction piece that is supposed to be a description of a favorite place of mine from childhood.  If any of you know anything about me, you know I don’t have many favorite places from back then, so it was tough to come up with one.

I decided to do a piece called “The Ballpark.” It was my favorite place to go when I lived in Georgia.  I played softball for three years before we moved to Kentucky.  Close by was the public swimming pool which was also where I loved to go most of the time in the summer.  I chose to write about the ballpark, because I was able to come up with more description using the five senses…I think.  😉  I probably won’t share it here since it is an assignment, and I’m not sure about whether we are allowed to put our assignments on a blog.  Perhaps I should find out.

Here’s another doodle I did last night experimenting with yellows and greens.  You may have to shield your eyes for this one; it’s too bright for me.  I could lift some yellow out, but it’s just a doodle, so it’s staying the way it is.

Bright Sea Turtle

Tomorrow I will post another 5×7 Sea Turtle I did, but I probably won’t be getting cards made from it.  I don’t really care much for the color, but I would love to know what you think!  I honestly don’t think it would be one that could sell.  Until then…

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!  🙂

5×7 Sea Turtle #1 FINISHED!!

Hello Friends!

Here is my first 5×7 Sea Turtle watercolor painting with the background!  This is my Green Sea Turtle.  In case you’re wondering why they are called “Green,” it is not because of the colors of their shells which are usually a brown color (mine is covered with moss, etc.) but it is because of the fat inside their bodies!  It is green from all the algae and other plants they eat!  Cool, huh?

I cannot seem to get my phone camera to do the colors justice, though.  The blues and greens in the water are not coming out as much as you can see them in person.  I tried taking the photo in different areas and this one taken outside was the best.  I think when it is scanned by the computer guy at the print shop, it will come out better.  I will dropping it off to them on Monday, August 14th since I will already have to be in town that day for the dentist.  I live over a 30 minute drive away so I go to town as little as possible!

I’m not sure how many to order, but will probably just start with a dozen.  The first time has to include the cost of scanning the painting as well.  So it could be two weeks or so before they are ready most likely.

In the meantime, I will be starting on the second one!  I am also working on my second children’s story for my writing class.  I wrote the first two drafts out by hand, and the second draft is a lot longer.  Now I’m going to type them to see what my word count is!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!  🙂

Green Sea Turtle Drawing

Hello Friends,

Here is a new drawing of my green sea turtle, Thomas.  It looks a little different than the first painting I did.  Yet, I am sure not all green sea turtles look exactly the same as far as their scales and faces go.

This is a new sea turtle that will also become a 5 x 7″  watercolor painting that I will want to have new blank greeting cards printed from, and I will add a background to it, too.

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!  🙂

“Bank” the Thai Sea Turtle

Hello Friends!

Meet Bank, the green sea turtle who lives in Thailand!

A photo of Bank taken four days before her surgery, her belly filled with nearly 1,000 coins.

When my husband told me the story of Bank, the green sea turtle, all I could do was shake my head.  Fortunately, her story seems to be having a happy turnout.  This is just one of the crazy, almost tragic, things that people can do to sea turtles, harming them without thinking.

There are more photos in the story that you can see of this beautiful green sea turtle, Bank.  Once you read this, you’ll understand her nickname.  Hopefully you haven’t heard it yet.  I couldn’t get the link to go to the Yahoo news page directly, so you’ll have to go to my art page on Facebook and then click on the link there.  Sorry about that!  It is a short article, though.  Please go check it out.  Tell me what you think!

Here’s her story:

P. S. If you ever see a sea turtle in a pool anywhere…please don’t toss it a coin!!!

Green Sea Turtle #2

Hello Friends!

Here is another green sea turtle I decided to do yesterday after I went and bought some brighter greens yesterday!  I really thought that the first green sea turtle I posted the other day didn’t turn out like I wanted it to.  Sometimes I think I just stress out too much about trying to get colors “right” instead of just painting and enjoying myself more!  But that’s just me.  Yet, I want to get back to just relaxing and having more fun again.  I still have a lot to learn about watercolors, that’s for sure!

Well, here is a companion for Gilbert.  Meet Genevieve!  I thought that was an appropriate name today since I have a blogging friend with that name!  She had a great idea about creating a story about a sea turtle and a sea bunny who would be like the tortoise and the hare in some way.  I told her she would end up writing it before I got around to it!  I hope you, do, Genevieve!  🙂  And so here she is!

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Hopefully, I will be drawing more skulls as well as sea creatures this weekend.  Although, we do have a Dungeons & Dragons game Sunday afternoon….I better get busy!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!  🙂

Here is my newest sea turtle, the Olive Ridley. It looks similar to the Loggerhead, but the colors are strikingly different. It will be a pretty green color.

So this is my rough drawing for my next painting! I don’t know when I’ll start on it yet, but hopefully soon.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Give someone you love a big hug! 🙂Olive Ridley Sea Turtle

Sea Turtle Videos!!

Here is some information about the state of sea turtles, conservation, and the device called a TEDs or turtle excluder devices that help prevent turtle bycatch, turtles that get caught in fishing nets. When this happens, the turtles get tangled up in them and will drown if they are not released. The TED helps save sea turtles, and I am glad someone came up with this great idea!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug!! 🙂
