Bookworm Worm

Hello Friends!

This is my last mixed media piece in my “Bookworm” series. So I thought it would be fitting for this character to actually be a BOOKWORM, ha ha! I really enjoyed creating this one, because I used handmade Mulberry paper for everything except the books.

First I drew my design on hot pressed watercolor paper which has a smooth surface. Then I cut pieces of the pink textured mulberry paper to fill in the background. Next I cut the white which has pieces of purple in it to fill in the lamp. Then I cut pieces of an orangey/yellow colored mulberry paper to fill in the worm. I felt like Eric Carle, although it wasn’t quite as tedious as working with painted tissue paper which is how he made his art. (He must have been such a patient person!) All of this was glued down with Liquitex Matte Medium.

The next day when everything was dry, I used watercolor pens to color the books, his hat, glasses and the lamp light. I used markers to do some outlining, and used a white marker to write the book names on. As you can see he is reading the last book of the Harry Potter book series, thus the tears. When I read the last book years ago, I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up all night to finish the last few chapters and balled my eyes out. But it is a great story!

I hope you are all doing well. We have been getting very high hot temperatures here, so I am very thankful for great air conditioning! Stay cool and…

Have a wonderful day! 🙂

About whitefeatherfloating

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork and some writing, but I also created a blog called "My Crazy Life!" in order to simply write my short autobiography and hopefully get some feedback on it as I go. However, it is a very slow project right now. You can find it here: https://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com Thanks for visiting! :)
