Practice Portrait in Oils
Hello Friends!
Today I painted this portrait in oils. Our teacher for Paint Your Heart and Soul this week was Fran Schlosser. She showed us how to paint a portrait by looking at just the shapes, angles, and shadows, and do it quickly. However, I spent more time on it than she did, because I am not used to using oils. And the smell of the solvents is not pleasant. I have good ventilation in my studio, but it still bothers me. So I probably won’t use them often. Experimenting is fun though! So now I am getting back to a pencil drawing I started last night.
Have a wonderful day! 😀

Nicely reflective image. I could never use oils for the same reason

Thanks, Derrick. I understand why so many oil painters work outside!

I can see that you’re having a lot of fun with these pictures. Your walls must be full of beautiful pictures.

Thanks! I actually took down all but 3 or 4 from last year. I stored some and gessoed over a few canvases so I can re-use them. Also, I am probably going to work more on paper this year since I don’t have much room to store canvases. But yes, many walls are full! 🙂
