Portrait of Two Women in Charcoal
Hello Friends!
Yesterday I drew this portrait for Let’sFaceIt2020. It is for Week 48 which was last week. I couldn’t do it then, because I strained my back. So I took a whole week off from doing art. I drew in my sketchbook a little, but mostly took care of myself.
Our instructor for this class was Robert Kelley who draws primarily in charcoal. It’s pretty amazing to watch him. This drawing is also large! I drew it on a piece of Strathmore drawing paper that is 18×24″! It was quite a challenge. I am not used to working in charcoal on such a large piece. I kept smudging stuff, but it was fine, because I would just rub stuff in for shadows in spots.
This week is our last week for the year, and it is a big project. I am not sure when I will get to start on it, because it is supposed to be a collage, and we are supposed to use our own photos. Our instructor, Kara Bullock, did it in acrylics on canvas! So I am still deciding on what photos I want to use. They are supposed to “tell a story.” It should be interesting!
I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. It is great that there is at least a vaccine for the virus now! I think it’s pretty awesome that the first person to get it is a 90 year old woman!
Have a wonderful day! 🙂

Your ladies show a lot of character in their faces. You’ve caught their expressions well.
