Portrait in Mixed Media
Hello Friends!
Yesterday I did Week 44 of Let’sFaceIt2020. Our instructor was Sara Burch. She is a very sweet and creative artist.
First I used charcoal to lightly draw her face with charcoal onto an 11×14″ piece of Strathmore drawing paper. used a nibbed pen and black India ink to darken the outline of her eyes, nose and mouth and darkened her eyebrows with very black charcoal.
Next I began adding color with Liquitex acrylic inks, chalk pastels, and some acrylic paints.
I used Turquoise Deep ink to create some shadow in her face and on her neck. Next I used Cerulean Blue ink to paint the background around her head. On her face I put a small amount of Transparent Raw Sienna ink in her eyelids, the sides of her nose, and on her forehead.
When that was almost dry, I used my rubber Catalyst and swept up and over the left side of her face. The raw sienna wasn’t quite dry, and made some cool marks!
Then I added more charcoal around her nose and mouth. I used a bright pink pastel pencil and a mixture of orange and white acrylics to accent her cheeks. I liked the orange, so I began adding some around her face to indicate hair, because I love orange and blue together! And I went crazy with her hair, so I threw on some gold ink for highlights!
I used white acrylic paint to highlight her face, neck, and shirt. Then I scribbled on some charcoal lines and a little Turquoise Deep with water to add some shadows in her shirt.
It was great to play and learn how these different mediums can interact with each other! I never know what will happen until I try something new. And that is what is so fun for me!
Have a wonderful day! 😀
