Girl in Red Shoes-Stage 1

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I began working on an 18×24″ acrylic painting from a short class by Kara Bullock called “The Red Shoes.”

First I used Raw Umber and water to paint a light coating onto the canvas so that it wasn’t completely white before I began drawing the figure. This is the method Kara always uses for painting her portraits. Then I used a brown Stabilio pencil to draw her outline and features.

Next I mixed Raw Umber with Ultramarine blue to get a dark color that is not quite black. Then I went over some of the areas that will be the darkest with a light coat of carbon black. I did not use the exact colors as Kara did, because I don’t have the same blues or blacks that she has.

However, that is the great thing about watching other artists work. I learn through experimentation and by not copying them exactly. So whatever the outcome is, it will be my creation.

This is what I love about the creative journey. We can do our own thing and share it with others, but we can also watch and listen to other artists to learn new ways to enhance our own art.

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

About whitefeatherfloating

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork and some writing, but I also created a blog called "My Crazy Life!" in order to simply write my short autobiography and hopefully get some feedback on it as I go. However, it is a very slow project right now. You can find it here: https://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com Thanks for visiting! :)
