House Elves in Watercolor
Hello Friends!
For the last few days I have been working on these two pages in my fairy journal. I put gold and silver paint on the collar of the girl’s cape, but in the picture it looks a little bit coppery in color.
This was a lot of fun. I also loved painting all the bugs and the little fairy at the top showing off her skirt. I love this workshop, because I am learning more about technique and not feeling like I have to draw and paint the exact thing as the instructor is doing. I have a few more paintings to do of fairies and elves from this workshop. And I want to take my time.
I am really enjoying this project even more than the portraiture class. I tend to get bored when I don’t have enough variety in what I am doing. So when I begin feeling this way, I have to change gears for awhile.
I am glad I know this about myself and can accept it. I spent too many years of my life getting down on myself for feeling bored and not finishing things that didn’t hold my interest over long periods of time. I figured it would happen with the portraiture class at about the halfway point. But that’s okay. As long as I get all the videos downloaded on my laptop, I can take as long as I need to complete it. That is the main thing that attracts me to this type of online class. I never let myself feel rushed or like I have to keep up with everyone else. It is very freeing!
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

These fairies and elves sure have odd characteristics, but that’s what makes them interesting and fun to look at, and I’m sure they are fun for you to draw and paint.

Glad you enjoy them! They are fun to draw and paint! I am curious as to what characteristics of them that you find odd?

The facial features are uneven, the ears a bit pointy, the eyes over-large, one with a big cheek on one side … just imperfections that we all have, but these are emphasized. I think that’s what makes them look impish, elfish, fairylike, whatever.
