Portrait of a Girl in Pencil

Hello Friends!

Last week we had two mini lessons in the Let’sfaceit2020 portrait group. There were two different teachers. One did a mixed media piece which I didn’t do. Lisa Filion did this piece on her iPhone with the app she teaches with. And, of course hers was in color, but I wanted to draw mine in pencil to keep in the practice of using graphite!

I drew the initial shapes with hard, light pencils. Then I used softer, darker pencils for the shading so I wouldn’t make my arm ache. That way, the pencils do more of the work, so to speak! I worked on it for several hours today, just getting lost in the drawing, which I absolutely love doing!

I am not doing this week’s acrylic portrait for now. The artist who did our watercolor portraits, Katrina Koltes, is starting to teach a different workshop called “Between the Realms” tomorrow which is all about fairies! We will be painting mostly in watercolors and using watercolor pencils to paint fairies in nature. We are even going to make magic wands with crystals, stones, and sticks! I can hardly wait to start!

This is part of what she said about the projects we will be doing. “There are 25+ videos in my workshop, including painting and craft sessions, guided meditations, spiritual projects, stories, and documentaries.”

It sounds so fun and interesting! I have always wanted to learn about the history of fairies (they are real, ya know!) 😉

I will have to go to town tomorrow to download all of the videos as I’m pretty sure we get them all at once so we can work at our own pace. It’s going to be so fun! Katrina is such a sweet lady.

Well, I hope everyone out there is staying safe and healthy!

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
