Portrait in Mixed Media-Stage 1

Hello Friends!

I am in Week #8 of Let’sFaceIt2020 already! This week is being taught by a fantastic artist! Her name is Maria Pace Wynters.

She is doing her mixed media painting on a wood substrate using paper and acrylic inks, and in a few spots, also acrylic paint. She is using very bright colors and not trying to do a realistic portrait which I am enjoying! The white skin will have more shadows and highlights in it eventually, but I love doing the white!

Acrylic inks look easier to use than paint, but I cannot invest in any more mediums right now. Although, I do have one color of acrylic ink that I bought a couple of weeks ago to use in a different project, but I haven’t tried it out yet.

This is our second over-the-shoulder portrait for the class which is a huge challenge! I drew this using two photos she provided and combined the different features from each one.

First, I drew it on the canvas with pencil. Next I used some striped tissue paper for her hair. Then I used some pastel checkered tissue paper for her shirt. I glued all of that down using Liquitex Matte Medium. But I painted over most of it, so I may add another layer of those, but I am not sure yet.

When I began painting, I hadn’t planned to put the flowers in her hair that Maria paints. But she does them in such a cool and unique way, that today I decided to lay down the shapes for them. I also had to re-do the angle of her eyes. Today is only the second day I have worked on it. But there is still a lot to do!

This class is the most fun I have ever had in any art classes! All the teachers are great, and each works in a variety of ways with a variety of materials which keeps things exciting for me. So that’s all for now!

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

About whitefeatherfloating

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork and some writing, but I also created a blog called "My Crazy Life!" in order to simply write my short autobiography and hopefully get some feedback on it as I go. However, it is a very slow project right now. You can find it here: https://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com Thanks for visiting! :)

  1. Sure is more involved than just paint and a brush. I bet it was fun to work with the strips of tissue paper.
