Frida Kahlo Underpainting

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I decided to trace a copy of a portrait of Frida Kahlo onto a hard thick piece of cardboard that I saved from an old pad of 300 lb. watercolor paper. I am using Golden acrylics, and this is my underpainting. Tomorrow I hope to lighten the shadows on her neck.

I have always admired Frida’s unique flare in the way she dressed. Plus she had striking facial features and was known for her unibrow which she emphasized in her self-portraits.

In my portrait class this week, a different teacher did a demonstration of how to draw a portrait on an iPad which I don’t have. There are others who also don’t have iPads, so they drew from the photo she provided. I will still attempt it at some point. But I want to finish my Frida painting first.

I hope you all are doing well. My shoulder is healing well enough for me to paint with my right hand again. But I won’t be able to get back to the level of productivity I was at three months ago for quite some time. The good news is that I only have to go to physical therapy once a week now.

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

About whitefeatherfloating

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork and some writing, but I also created a blog called "My Crazy Life!" in order to simply write my short autobiography and hopefully get some feedback on it as I go. However, it is a very slow project right now. You can find it here: https://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com Thanks for visiting! :)

  1. Frida was a unique artist in her work and her personal looks, not to mention her own story. What an unforgettable person she was. Good subject for your portrait work.
