Sea Turtle in Mixed Media
Hello Friends!
I decided to try something a little different with this mixed media piece. I covered the 5×7 canvas with some bright yellow paint before I covered it with some washi tape that has a pretty leaf pattern. Since I wanted to use watercolor on it, I had to paint a light coat of Liquitex Absorbent Ground over the whole canvas.
Then I decided to draw the sea turtle in pencil. However, instead of leaving the washi tape pattern for its body, I decided to use some tissue paper in bright yellow, a little bit of green, and light aqua to fill in its shell and head. To glue it down I used my Liquitex Matte Medium, then went over the canvas with it to help it stay glued on.
I was going for a mosaic look, but I am still trying to figure out how to do that!
Then I used my Winsor & Newton watercolor pens to outline the turtle’s features, fill in a few spots on its face and legs, and add the blues in the background for the water.
This was pretty easy on me physically. So that was a plus. Also, I did it in stages over a few days time. I like the way it turned out, and it was fun.
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

The mottley look of the leaves comes through and adds something “turtlish” to the picture.
