Crocuses in Mixed Media

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I began my series of mixed media paintings. However, instead of posting the pencil drawing of my Crocuses, I decided to post the finished painting.

I drew it differently than my original pencil drawing and decided to paint a couple of yellow crocuses since I love the complimentary colors of purple and yellow so much! Plus, I decided to use a different collaged canvas for this one than the one I was going to use.

The background design is done in acrylics. But after putting a layer of absorbent ground on top of that, which is the whitewash layer, I was able to paint the leaves and flowers in watercolors.

This is definitely a much longer process to go through for just one painting, but it is also fun to learn new things and work with new materials.

One of these days I want to invest in some Faber Castell Watercolor Markers which is what Miriam Schulman was using to paint her flowers in the class. Their colors are more vibrant, but they are pretty pricey. (And yesterday George had to get new brakes put on our car, so…no markers this month! Ha ha!)

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork. Thanks for visiting! :)

  4. That’s beautiful, Patsy. I always liked the look of pen and watercolour so I was surprised to read that this was pencil (not ink). It has a similar look.
