Me in Mixed Media
Hello Friends!
This was a fun piece to do. I wrote this poem called SHE WAS NOT ME over 20 years ago when I was going through healing from various instances of sexual abuse in my youth and 20’s. I didn’t want to type out the whole poem in this post so you’ll have to enlarge the photo to read it.
I have been wanting to do something creative with some of the poems I wrote in the past. So I was looking through them the other day and decided to do this with it.
I used a couple of my favorite Renoir portraits that I saved from an old calendar of his paintings. One is of a young lady and the other a little girl. To make them mine, I painted over parts of them to help portray who I believed I was in the past. And of course, the picture at the bottom is a copy of a recent photo of me in braids! I also don’t wear makeup anymore, so this is me…wrinkles, gray hair and all!
Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

I am moved and inspired by the way you have used collage and poetry to write and rewrite your life and story. I turn to art journaling and writing for integration, understanding, healing and growth. Thriving is possible for survivors of sexual trauma. xoSabrina

Well, thank you! I appreciate that. I actually did it on a framed canvas so yes, I was able to hang it in my art studio right away! 🙂

I don’t wear make-up either and am grey and wrinkly too! 😀

I remember the little girl in the Renoir…she had a watering can. This is beautiful, Patsy. I’m so sorry for what you experienced. ❤

Lots of introspection there, and a good idea for expressing it.

Aww, I wish I had known you, been an older sisterly friend when this was going on, Patsy. I would have listened.
Hugs and heartfelt regret for the loss of your sweet innocence. Your original, beautiful mixed media piece is amazing! Your poignant words brought tears to my eyes. 💗 Robin
