Vincent van Gogh – Mixed Media

Hello Friends!

I really had fun creatiing this piece! I am posting close-ups of a few sections, and then the FINISHED PIECE!

I wrote a couple of words on there which I associate with him – BEAUTY and INTENSITY. Then I wrote one of his many quotes in the upper right hand corner which says,

“I want to touch people with my art. I want them to say, ‘he feels deeply, he feels tenderly.”  Vincent van Gogh

This is my own rendition of his “Self-Portrait with Straw Hat.”

After I finished this part, I added a watercolor mixture of Cerulean blue (which is a color Vincent used a lot in his oils) and Turquoise blue, which is a blue I love! Then I painted some shades of red around it.

This is my own rendition of part of one of his self-portraits where I wanted to emphasize the bold spirit in his eyes.

In the middle is my drawing of him at 13 years old with yellow added to again emphasize his eyes. You may have noticed one portrait has green eyes and the other has blue. He painted his eyes green sometimes even though they were blue. The piece paper in the bottom left corner of this part is a photo copy of his own handwriting.

Then in the top right hand corner I printed the quote that I mentioned earlier.

I also want to point out that the darkest piece of collage is a copy of his drawing called “The Potato Eaters,” which is one of my favorites.

And finally…………..MY FINISHED PIECE!

This was so enjoyable for me to do! I hope you enjoy looking at it. It is now hanging on my art studio’s wall as my expression of my favorite artist.

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

About whitefeatherfloating

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork and some writing, but I also created a blog called "My Crazy Life!" in order to simply write my short autobiography and hopefully get some feedback on it as I go. However, it is a very slow project right now. You can find it here: https://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com Thanks for visiting! :)

  2. I’ve practiced some Van Gogh copy attempts. No matter how they turn out I think the most important two elements are color and texture. The latter is done with thick paint but the effect can be achieved with mixed media too.

    • Yes, Carl, he certainly did put his paint on thick! I don’t paint in oils, and even though I use retarder in my acrylics, they still dry too fast for me. I actually prefer watercolor. Thanks for stopping by! 😁
