Sea Horse Mixed Media

Hello Friends!

Here is my crayon sea horse which now is a mixed media piece! This was so fun!

First, I painted a coat of Liquitex Matte Medium over the crayon seahorse and plain blue background.

Second, I applied dots of modeling paste to add some physical texture for parts of the sea horse and the red coral.

Third, I painted over the white modeling paste with a red watercolor. Then I added some darker accents to the seahorse with watercolors.

Fourth, from my original watercolor painting I had done of this seahorse, I cut out the green seaweed, gluing it down in the corner.

Lastly, I cut out a couple of the smallest fishes from my original yellow tang fish watercolor painting I did a long time ago and glued them on.

I like the way these cut out pieces added a 3D effect since they were originally painted on 300 lb. Fabriano watercolor paper which is thick.

This whole process was so relaxing! I spent a couple of hours this afternoon in the quiet of my studio with the windows open listening to the birds while I worked. And this was after a nice unexpected phone call from my high school friend who lives in Texas now. So it has been a great day! I hope you….

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
