Illustration Class: My Last Assignment!

Hello Friends!

Well, I am finally done with the last assignment for my illustration class. The past five weeks have flown by while I’ve been busy with this. For our final assignment, we had to do two illustrations and a 60 word (or less) bio to go with it. I worked on this for the past three days almost non-stop! My shoulder was hurting last night, but after a great massage, I woke up feeling ready to finish today..and I did! Also, thanks to a fellow classmate, I was able to send my images to her so she could “stack” them. I don’t have the tools to do that yet. So “we” finally finished about an hour or so ago. It is after 9 p.m. now, but I wanted to do this post so I can sleep in tomorrow!

Here is what I came up with.  For the stacked version where they are together, on the first illustration, I could not get it to crop in the right place on my phone before she needed it. The left edge is supposed to be further right so the juvenile sea turtle looks like it is peeking into the picture, and the right edge is supposed to be further left so it is more flush with the bubbles. This was all done in watercolors, even the printing! Also, I realized after she was finished, that I didn’t adjust the color well enough. So they look washed out.

Biography for the CBA Golden Ticket Webinar

Patsy H. Parker enjoys reading children’s picture books even though her two children are now 19 and 21 years old. Her favorite animals to draw and paint are sea turtles and other sea creatures. She has been dreaming of writing and illustrating children’s picture books about sea turtle characters and their underwater friends for many years.

Here is the second set of pictures with the colors adjusted. I think the second full-color spread looks better, but the title page, even though it is cropped right, still needs some adjustment. The background looks like it has a tint, but it was painted on bright white watercolor paper, so my phone did that.

This has definitely been a learning experience. I do NOT plan to take any more classes for the rest of the year where I have to submit stuff on a deadline. However, I will eventually get back to the other online “classes” from the other company. And I just got the latest version of Photoshop which I am realizing I have to re-learn! I loved what we had years ago on our desktop. I have been without it for quite some time so I figured it was time to get it. I just wasn’t able to get it in time to know how to do my own paintings for this assignment!

Well, it is almost 10:00 p.m. now. I need to go rest for the night. I hope everyone has been having a good week!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 🙂

    • Thanks Jill. Well, the class is done now! But I still have some reading and videos to do. I kind of felt rushed on these pieces. But we have 2 weeks to re-do them for actually entering into the contest.
George is leaving today for the CCC debriefing and will see Josh’s crew come in sometime tomorrow. Then Josh is coming home with George on Wednesday!!
