TAKING A BREAK!

Hello Friends,

I just wanted to let all of you know that I am going to be taking a break for a week or so while I get my last writing assignment done.

There is also a whole lot of other stuff going on. The Carr Fire in Redding, CA, was only about 40 miles away from us. However, it didn’t reach the downtown area or the city itself, just the outskirts. Unfortunately, we do know people who have lost their homes or are still evacuated. So it has been a very scary week here.

Our daughter was supposed to have this whole past week off since last Wednesday. But she got home that night and had to leave to work a fire camp (she is NOT a firefighter) with her crew on Sunday morning. The fire they are at is near Susanville and Eagle Lake. It is much smaller and not spreading as fast as the Carr fire. That one spread very rapidly overnight and has burned over 98,000 acres so far. The good news is that for now, it is 20% contained.

There have been five deaths that they know of. One was a firefighter, one was a bulldozer operator, and one was a great-grandmother with her two great-grandchildren. They were 4 and 5 years old. It was very tragic.

Somehow I have managed to keep working on my assignment but it feels slow-going now. I still think I will make my deadline, though, which is August 15th.

But I do not have any new artwork in the works at the moment. I probably won’t be starting any for another week or so. I just wanted you to know I didn’t fall off the face of the earth! And I will answer comments and questions on this post.

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 🙂

When I began this blog I was simply going to share my writing. However, after being part of the blogging world for quite some time now, I decided to begin sharing my artwork. Patsy's Creative Corner will always have my artwork. Thanks for visiting! :)

  2. Thanks for the update on the fire. I used to stay in Redding every time I traveled through. Love that town. I was sick to hear all the news about the fire. It’s crazy and scary out there. Real life comes first, writing about it can come later and everyone adjusts. Hope the work on your assignment starts to flow again. Stress can slow the thought process down. Deep breath and know we are all cheering for you.

    • You’re welcome. You’ve been through Redding? Where are you now? Fortunately, I don’t think any of the actual town is gone and they are containing it pretty well. It is mostly the towns on the outskirts of Redding.
I am doing okay on the writing. Just need less stuff on my “creative” plate right now. Thanks for your encouragement!

      • I know about full plates. They can get tricky and quite heavy. I’m in the Portland Oregon area. I used to live in the mountains of Arizona and would drive through Flagstaff to LA and visit my son then on up to Portland at least a couple of times a year. Just me and the dog. The La Quinta was our spot to stay in Redding . Love it there but just sooo hot. Now, no dog, no driving. ;( You’ll get done what has to be done. 😉

        • Yes. My plate feels heavy right now! Sounds like you did lots of driving! I am not real good with long drives anymore. Plus, we would have to leave our pets in a kennel.
I have worked all day today researching children’s magazines as I work on my assignment.
I think I am done for the day now! 😁

  4. Enjoy your week off and stay safe! Have been keeping an eye on the Carr fire. Since I’ve got to go to Sacramento this week. Unfortunately all the smoke is in Southern Oregon so I can imagine how bad it is there! Stay safe. Ann

    • Hi Ann. Thank you. I have heard about fires in Oregon, too. Have you ever been to Redding? Have a safe drive to Sacramento. The smoke isn’t as bad at our house today. If you are ever going to be near Redding, it would be fun to meet. Patsy
