Model Mouse
Hello Friends,
Today’s drawing came about in an interesting way. Last week my husband saw a mouse lying on our garage floor…dead of course. It didn’t look like it had been injured; it just looked like it died of natural causes! He never picked it up and tossed it out into the field and forgot about it. With the weather being so cold, it didn’t smell or anything either.
Well, I just remembered it this morning. So I went out to the garage, grabbed a rag, and picked it up. I brought it in so I could draw it. It was so CUTE!!! My husband walked in for his work break and said, “Well, I never thought I would see that!” 😉
I don’t often draw from “life” (or death in this case), but I just couldn’t resist. I put it on the table, so I drew it from a weird angle. Anyway, here is my ‘model mouse.’ I will probably draw it in a different pose from my imagination with my Prismacolor watercolor pencils. Its coat had several shades of brown and white which was very pretty.
Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 🙂

Nice proportions. It’s always ideal to draw from still life (no pun intended).

Thanks although I am not sure how accurate it is. I would have said “pun intended”! It is punnier!! Ha, ha.

😥 Darn that looked like my friend Bart I wondered what happened to him, so glad that you got something out of his unfortunate demise at least you captured his good side! Best Marshall the Mouse.

I think it’s wonderful the mouse was able to continue to serve even in death. Not sure I could have done that but you did a great job of the drawing. Did he get a proper send off after?

Thanks. Well, I didn’t bury him. But I did take him to a spot outside and laid him on top of a leaf. 😉

Well done. But are you sure it is a mouse and not a young rat? The ears seem pointy and so does its snout. Did the tail have fur on it? Anyway, whatever it was, you did a great job of drawing it.

Well, we think it was a mouse. I don’t think I rounded the ears very well, because they looked rounder actually. And I think there was a tad bit of fur on the tail. Thank you, Anneli!

Awe poor little thing, I did this once with a dragonfly but it just felt sad with no life in it. The great artist use to sketch the birds and animals they found deceased as they had no reference photos like we can scroll through. Art comes in weird ways sometimes Patsy.

I know, huh, Kath! I was going to take a picture of it, but didn’t. And yes, I think Audobon sketched from dead birds he found didn’t he? And yes, art does come in weird ways at times, Kath. 🙂
