Mental Health Recovery
Hello Friends,
Recently I found this man’s blog. His name is James Edgar Skye. I wanted to share this post of his with you to encourage anyone who struggles with any type of mental illness. The road is tough for us, but when we get help, take medication if we need it, and have support, we CAN accomplish our goals.
I have been taking a correspondence course through the Institute of Children’s Literature since about August. I am halfway through it now! My sixth assignment is to write a story using the character I created in my fifth assignment. So my wheels have been spinning as I read other writer’s stories in my text.
I know most of you know me as a watercolor/drawing artist, however, when I began this blog over five years ago, I was focusing on writing. The blog helped to motivate me. I have wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. However, I have started many pieces, such as my memoir and a novel, that I have yet to finish. That’s okay. Right now I want to learn to write short stories for teenagers and write about serious issues that many of them face daily such as depression, anxiety, cutting, and various addictions.
So I encourage you to read James’s post as well and be encouraged. Struggling with mental illness is difficult, but we can still achieve our goals with a lot of hard work. Encouraging each other along the way is also key.
Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 🙂
Thanks for sharing your life with us, James. 🙂 Please read on to get to know James.
Yesterday I introduced a new series on the blog. My real life journal entries during some of my toughest times. My Mental Illness Journal. Today I want to talk about goals in mental health recovery. What Are Your Mental Health Recovery Goals? In the life with a mental illness, it can seem difficult to set […]

Loved this post too!!! He’s a really great blogger and his stuff is always without fail worth reading. If anyone ever fancies sending me a positive story about their mental health I love to make posts about them, which is what my blog is all about. (Obviously I would share your post as well!) Big love X

Thank you. I am 57, but I have two kids who are almost 19 and 21. They keep me thinking young, but this is something I have wanted to do since I was a teen! 🙂 Go for it! Read young adult fiction for ideas. It helps a lot.

I hear you. It is the same for me. My kids are busy working full-time now and are not reading like they used to. So I just browse in the young adult section of the library….a lot! Perhaps we could keep in touch and encourage one another. 🙂

🙂 Have a great day! By the way, how did you come up with your blog name?

I don’t know…I had a dog, and I called him Ray. He had a FB page. (I was helping to locate him in a good family here in Sweden (the dog was from Cyprus, for adoption in EU). So later then…when I was bored and couldn’t come up with a name for the blog – I decided it will be Ray, but I knew only one great sci fi writer (I love sci fi) – Ray Bradbury. But I couldn’t use it. So I added “NOT” to the name haha

That’s great and very clever! 😉 I figured it was something like that. I have read a little of Ray Bradbury, but just can’t get into his style. I do love Orson Scott Card, though.

Mmm, I love Ray Bradbury’s short stories.
I prefer old-fashion sci fi. I never buying sci fi nowadays. Only non fiction(science).
What u love from Orson Scott Card? Or anything?

I have read his first book in his Pathfinder trilogy. I am on the second book, Ruins. I love his sense of humor and his characters. There is a lot of time travel in it which is interesting.
