Degas’s “Dancers in Pink”
Hello Friends,
I have finally redone one of my favorite paintings of Degas’s ballerinas. I have only done this one in pastels which is in a previous post. So…here it is in watercolors.
I have a small print of this painting. I used tracing paper and my lightboard to trace the main outlines for accurate proportions. Then I transferred it to 300 lb. watercolor paper. The heavier the paper, the better my paintings usually turn out.
Then I used my Prismacolor watercolor pencils and other watercolor paints to render my copy of this painting.
I had to wait until I came to town today to post this, because I couldn’t get the picture uploaded from my phone!! Very frustrating living out in the sticks sometimes.
I am going to be talking with my doctor today about the highs and lows I have been experiencing in the last few months, so hopefully he can figure something out.
I want to thank those of you who have been praying for me. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I will finish my article this week!
Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug. 😊

Lovely, Patsy. Degas is a favorite of mine. One can’t go wrong learning from him.

Thanks Elena. I really enjoyed doing it. Unfortunately, I haven’t had as much time to do my art since taking the writing class. I am not quite halfway through with it. Yes, I do love Degas a lot!

Your drawing is just lovely. Sorry to hear you are still struggling. I went through all the medications for years. We each need to find our own way out of it. I’m hoping your doctor can help you find the remedy. I’ll keep good thoughts for you.

Well, I started on Prozac yesterday. The sun is shining today and I am going to make our pumpkin pies. It is already a great day!! Thank you.

Prozac worked for me for many years. I went back and forth on different meds. You do what you need to do to keep putting one foot in front of the other. No need to feel apologetic to anyone for that. Keep taking care of yourself.

Yes I hear you! I have never felt apologetic for my brain’s lack of serotonin! Ha ha. I do have a problem with religious people who think it is something that can be prayed away though like they think mental illness is a weakness instead of an illness!

Lovely picture, Patsy. Have you tried making lists of positive things? It’s not good to let yourself slide. Glad you’re seeing a doctor. Try not to let him solve your problems with pills. You have so much going for you.

Thank you Anneli. I will do that. I have neen on anti-depressants for years. I already know I will always be on medication. With age they have to be changed sometimes. It has always been a matter of a chemical imbalance with me. I went through years of good counseling and i exercise and eat well so when things are going well for me and it still happens, I know I need a new one. He gave me a low dose of Prozac. Thanks for your support!

I remember many, many years ago taking an anti-depressant and looking back I think it was a case of misdiagnosis. I was just stressed and these pills knocked me right out so I was barely functioning. It made me very wary of ever taking anything like that again. But you know best what your body needs and can handle. I wish you good luck with it and hope you can manage yourself with continued healthy living. It helps to try your best to live well, even if it isn’t a cure-all. Meanwhile, keep drawing and painting. You are so talented! You inspired me to buy a sketch pad and pen for my artistic sister and I told her about you. She has taken up drawing again, so – see what a good influence you’ve had!

It sounds like you were either misdiagnosed or maybe needed something different. Wow, thank you so much for telling your sister about me, Anneli. That really means a lot. I hope she enjoys getting back into her drawing. Would she let you post anything she does? ♥😊🐢

Misdiagnosed, for sure! My sister would probably be too shy, but we’ll see.

Thank you Jill. I think I have most of my ideas down and the intro and ending. Just working on that darn middle!

I like Degas as well, and nice translation into color pencils/watercolor! This version somehow seems to me more on the side of spring, whereas when I see Degas I always feel like winter (indoors, that is). I hope you get better soon!

Thank you. My pencils are actually watercolor pencils. I don’t use them much because i haven’t spent a lot of time learning to blend the different colors yet. Yes I think of spring with this piece as well. I agree that many of his others have a more wintery tone with the blues he used so often. 😊
