My Latest Writing Project
I have been writing my memoirs (even though I am only 52) again…I say again, because I have attempted this several times through the years.
I am finding it more enjoyable this time, because most of my story involves my immediate family, all of which are not in my life any more. My parents have passed away, and I don’t know where one of my brothers is. The other one lives a few hours away by car, but we haven’t really had much of a brother-sister relationship for most of our lives. However, we are on good terms now. That makes me happy.
I have been doing a lot of thinking about how to approach the form of my story. For instance,
1) From a first-person point of view?
2) From a third-person point of view?
3) In lots of vignettes?
OR, my latest idea…perhaps writing lots of short stories that are part fiction, part true?
Even though choice number one is how it is already started, and I am seven chapters in (they aren’t very long), I am thinking I like the last idea the most. So I plan to start playing around with that idea soon.
What I want to know is WHAT DO YOU THINK (if you’ve actually read this far, that is)? I really appreciate any feedback any of you have, and especially anyone who has already done this with your life or are in the process of it.
Thanks so much friends! I appreciate you bunches.

That’s great ewok! I love your blog name by the way. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for many years, but haven’t had time until now. Today I sat in Barnes and Noble for almost two hours writing which was a lot of fun!!

Patsy, I think it is a great idea to write about your life story. I believe sometimes the part-fact, part-fiction idea really embellishes a story but other times the true life story stands up well on its own. Most people have had a life of ups and downs and they like hearing how others have lived in this world as well. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Christine! I haven’t decided yet how I’m going to do it, but thanks for your feedback. I have actually started writing it on another blog.

Yeah, I think so, too.

I was going with the first person POV till you talked about part fact/part fiction short stories..that’s sounds really cool…like a hyper-reality, the fiction that serves to highlight the deeper truth within, or something like that…just sounds like a really intriguing idea to me. 🙂

Thanks! It’s not an “original” idea of mine, however!
😉 I got it from a book! Thanks so much for your feedback. I have written most of it in first person already, but I had also read about people who have written in third person to help distance themselves from painful memories.

I can understand the third person POV for that reason though I suspect even writing about them in that way would still be painful… 🙂
